- 五分法身
- (sa) pañca-dharmakāya, the five attributes of the (sa) dharmakāya or 'spiritual' body of the Tathāgata, i. e. 戒 that he is above all moral conditions; 定 tranquil and apart from all false ideas; 慧 wise and omniscient; 解脫 free, unlimited, unconditioned, which is the state of nirvana; 解脫知見 that he has perfect knowledge of this state. These five attributes surpass all conditions of form, or the five skandhas; Eitel interprets this by exemption from all materiality ((sa) rūpa); all sensations ((sa) vedana); all consciousness ((sa) saṃjñā); all moral activity ((sa) karman); all knowledge ((sa) vijñāna). The esoteric sect has its own group. See also 五種法身.
